These 2 tank connectors are required for every soil-based standing base and serve a) as area to tank the wicker reservoir and b) as overflow valve to prevent standing water from permanently touching your soil.
It can also be used with the closed base of soil-less operation to refill the water reservoir.
You can always use your own fittings and drill the required holes your self at the proper positions, these here are just examples.
